The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Route The Durango & Silverton is one of two remaining segments of the Denver & Rio Grande Western railroad, which at one time had the largest operating narrow gauge railroad network in North America. The San Juan Extension of the network ran from Walsenburg, Colorado via northern New Mexico over the other remaining segment, the present-day Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad, terminating at Durango, Colorado. The Silverton branch, which we have modeled, was constructed primarily to haul gold and silver ore mined in the San Juan Mountains, and was completed in July of 1882.. The G-TraX D&S Route package includes narrow gauge locomotives and rolling stock shown in the screen shots plus over 6 hours of operating scenarios.
